Teaser – Fanaticism and Brain Injury

Is there is a correlation between people who raise relatively normal fanaticism to an extreme and violent level and potential brain injury? I’m not totally conversant with the subject and perhaps some of my friends will chime in to critique my analysis tomorrow. My goal is to look at some of the murderous maniacs in history and compare them to the mindset of terrorists today.

Is murderous fanaticism actually a brain malfunction rather than a learned behavior? Perhaps it is a tragic combination of the two. Come back tomorrow and you’ll get to explore the topic with me.

Teaser – Emotional Intelligence

In response to my recent conclusions on intelligence one of my few followers asked me what I thought about “emotional intelligence”. I thought I’d take on this topic. Just to get you ready for my blog I’ll tell you right now that I’m not sure that “emotional intelligence” is actually a thing. I do think I understand the gist of the question which boils down to the concept of social skills as opposed to intelligence.

Anyway, it’s an interesting question and I’ll talk about it tomorrow!

See you then,

Teaser – Conclusions about Intelligence

Tomorrow I wrap up Intelligence week with my conclusions. It’s a complex topic and I don’t think that I’ll have the final say in the matter but there are some important issues that need clarification. Are IQ tests accurate? Is intelligence inherited from one generation to the next? Is it important for the government, through policy, to discourage lower IQ people from having children? These are major issues that have an impact on the future of the nation and the world.

So, come back tomorrow to see what I think!

Teaser – The Bell Curve

One of the most controversial books published on the subject of intelligence and its practical applications is called The Bell Curve. It was written by Libertarians and made some bold predictions about the future of the United States. Tomorrow, in the next chapter of my Intelligence Week, I’m going to take a look at that book and some of its predictions. I’m also going to examine some of the ideas that it promulgates and how they apply to the country and to the world.

It should be fun!

Teaser – Artificial Intelligence

Tomorrow Intelligence Week continues when I take a look at the state of Artificial Intelligence development. It’s tough to define intelligence and not so easy to quantify it either but there is still a chance we can build it. I’ll talk about where we are now, with some chess references of course, and what the future might entail as developments continue.

It’s some exciting stuff,

See you tomorrow!

Teaser – What is Smart?

Intelligence week continues tomorrow as I take on a tough one. What is it that makes some people smarter than others? It’s more difficult to measure intelligence than say, speed or strength. But, there are clearly some people who are smarter than others so there must be measurable differences in the groups. The question becomes what to measure and how.

See you soon!

Teaser – Arguments Against Human Driven Climate Change

Tomorrow I’m going to take on some of the arguments that refute human driven climate change. I’ve talked about most of the theories involved in the change in global temperature over the last few days and it’s time to talk about the arguments against it. It’s a hot button topic to say the least but hopefully it will give those who believe that humans are the driving force behind the recent warming an opportunity to hear the rational opposition side.

I’ll probably give some time to the irrational side as well but not too much of that as I got annoyed with stupidity.

Teaser – Tornadoes and Climate Change

I was wondering what to write about tomorrow and I’m now watching events unfold in the Dallas/Fortworth region of Texas. I am aware that climate change is related in some way to tornadoes but I don’t know much about the link to be honest about it. So, tomorrow I’ll examine how the two are tied together and we’ll learn together!

It should be interesting,

Teaser – Thermohaline Circulation

In what is surely going to be one of the most talked about blog entries of my career; tomorrow I take on Themohaline Circulation and its effect on the global climate. I know, it’s a crazy topic filled with exciting and controversial subjects. You might ask, am I mad? You might, rightly, suspect that no sane person could take on such a perilous topic but I aim to take the plunge!

See you tomorrow!

P.S. It’s the circulation of water through the oceans.

P.P.S Take the plunge, get it? Hee hee hee.

Teaser – Greenhouse Gases

Greenhouse GasThe vitriol between the different sides on the issue of the climate change science seems to me to be extremely … high. Often I find both sides to be somewhat lacking in understanding of the explanations offered both pro and con. I thought I’d take a few days to look at some of the science involved and try to break it down a little. I’ll try to present evidence without judgement although probably, like my Nuclear Power series, I’ll end up coming to some conclusions by the end.

Tomorrow I’m going to try to explain the phenomenon of greenhouse gases, what they are, how they are produced, how they are used, what they mean to the climate of the world. See you then.

If you’re anything like me you can hardly wait!

Teaser – Trayvon Martin Case

It has been suggested to me that one reason my blog isn’t getting tens of thousands of hits is because I’m not taking on controversial topics. I’m happy to look at issues like that provided there is something to talk about. I just don’t see it in the Trayvon Martin case. Nothing to talk about, you ask? Yep. And I’ll tell you why tomorrow.

This way I can fool myself into thinking I’m not trolling for sensationalistic stories and actually troll for sensationalistic stories. Hmmm, am I just like all the other media outlets? You tell me.

Teaser – Open Source

World Wide WebTomorrow I’m to talk about an interesting topic at least from the point of a view of a Libertarian. Open Source is a movement in which a product is open to the public for development and largely either free or of a particularly low-cost. This movement seems inimical capitalism but I think that might not be the case and I’ll examine the issue tomorrow.

See you then!

Teaser – Tim Berners-Lee

World Wide WebAll right you geeks and geekesses who follow my blog. Tomorrow I’m going to launch into praise for a fellow named Tim Berners-Lee. You’ve likely never heard of him but he is largely responsible for the World Wide Web. He continues to be an important figure to this day.

If you thought DARPA and Al Gore were exciting then be prepared to have your socks knocked clean off by tomorrow’s blog. If, by some crazy chance, you didn’t find the previous two days posts super-exciting then you are one strange bird! 🙂

See you tomorrow,

Teaser – Internet Week – Al Gore

World Wide WebYep, the much-anticipated article about how Al Gore invented the internet! Well, it may come as a surprise to you but he didn’t actually invent the internet. I went over its invention this morning with DARPA where I also got a chance to reference Galt’s Gulch from Atlas Shrugged. It was actually a good article although the title is a bit dull. Go look! I command it.

So, if you hate Al Gore or if, by some chance, you love him; don’t miss tomorrow’s blog because there’s something for everyone!

Teaser – The Internet

World Wide WebI think I’ll spend next week talking about the internet, its origins, the important figures in its development (yes, Al Gore is in there) and what is it evolving into. It’s an interesting story that has changed the world although I’m not certain how much objectivism and critical thinking come into play. I’m sure I’ll manage to make some tie-ins.

Tomorrow I’ll talk about an agency called DARPA and how its employees created the first internet, why they did it, and they amazing things that they are working on today. At least the ones we know about!

This fascinating topic is sure to gain me thousands of followers. 🙂

See you tomorrow!

Teaser – Bad Apple

Bad AppleThe expression goes that one bad apple spoils the barrel. I’m of the opinion that the fear of bad apples is much more dangerous than the bad apple itself. This fear is endangering our life, liberty, and ability to pursue happiness. I’ll talk about how the United States seems to be becoming a nation that lives in fear rather than a nation that conquers its fears. It will likely end up being a multi-part article but I’ll get started tomorrow.

Stay tuned,

Teaser – Meritocracy

GovernmentIt’s hard to believe but the final day of Government Week is here and I can almost hear the sighs of disappointment from all three of you who have followed this exciting topic from the very beginning! Ok, maybe it was only one of you. Thanks, mom!

Tomorrow I cover the form of government that does not exist and yet should be the model for everything. Meritocracy. Stay tuned and I’ll explain the concept and why the further we get from this ideal the worse our government becomes.

Teaser – Theocracy

GovernmentTomorrow government week continues with a real hot button issue the theocratic state. This is a form of government this is causing great concern both inside and outside the United States. You may not know what it means now but if you stick with me on this exciting series of topics you’ll find out tomorrow!

See you then.
